What’s a Nelipot?

A nelipot is an old and quirky word for someone who doesn’t wear shoes. I come from a long line of women who are nelipots. In fact, I remember as a child, watching my grandma walking around her garden without shoes. It was a badge of honor to me, to be “tough enough” to step on a thorn without pain. Don’t get me wrong, a pair of fabulous heels still make me swoon… but I’ll only wear them for an hour or two when I’m out in public. The second I’m able to, I always go barefoot.
